our story

The Give Some Life (GSL) Foundation originated with a small group of dedicated animal rights activists, Mexican citizens and U.S. citizens. The common bond was a commitment to the protection and welfare of all animals, both domestic and wild.  The motivation to organize into a non-profit organization came after considerable rescue and recovery activities involving Mexican wildlife.

During the disruptive weather conditions generated by El Nino, a large number of baby sea mammals, disoriented from their mothers at sea, drifted ashore here in Baja in bad physical condition. Some were just coming off of the "Endangered species" list. After ambitious efforts of dedicated volunteers and some advice from the San Diego Zoo, some of these unfortunate animals were rehabilitated and returned to the sea. Sadly, others could not be saved. Available resources is always a factor.

This early rescue effort with Mexican sea mammals generated trust and confidence from Profepa (The official Mexican Government Fish and Wild Animal Protection Commission.) Later, Profepa became faced with an accumulation of exotic birds from the Mexican interior. These wild birds have been confiscated during smuggling attempts at the border.  A Bi-national Mexico-U.S. treaty mandates that all such confiscated wildlife must be repatriated back to Mexico.  Lacking the necessary resources to house, feed, provide medical care and rehabilitate these beautiful creatures, Profepa appealed to the Give Some Life Foundation for assistance.

A private residence in Punta Bandera was converted into a hospital/aviary to pursue an ambitious and successful recovery and rehabilitation program for these exotic birds. All of the birds capable of surviving again in the wild were eventually flown back into their native habitat.  Children from a small jungle school were allowed to open their cages and set them free.  The Give Some Life Foundation is proud to have participated in this rescue, rehabilitation and repatriation process.

The Give Some Life Foundation is dedicated to the protection and welfare of all animals (Both domestic and wild).  We will eagerly work with and assist any person, any group and any organization who has the same objective.  This includes working with the Mexican Government, at any level.
Give Some Life believes that free spaying and neutering programs, plus the rippling education effect, is the best long range solution for the problem of unwanted and suffering animals in the streets. This has become the thrust and our major endeavor.  For Several years, the Foundation has participated in regularly scheduled sterilization campaigns, mainly focused in Tijuana, frequently going to low-income outlying areas.

We are happy to report that we have supported financially by outfitting, training and being physically present at new “Campaigns” in Mexicali, Tecate, Ensenada and Rosarito and we welcome their monthly “Campaigns”.   Providing FREE Spay/Neuter is the key and we love to take the Campaign to many places in the Baja.  We recently went down the Baja 150 miles to a small fishing village, Erendira and to El Rosario as well as Punta Banda and have fixed almost 600 animals in San Felipe since September of 07.   With over 9,000 animals sterilized - it has been successful beyond what we could have ever imagined. Our strategy is rapidly becoming self propelling as local cities and the vet associations are coming to our “Campaigns” to demonstrate so Give Some Life will bring our process to their city… Recently Tecate kicked off their first “Campaign” with 14 Veterinarians from the Tecate Vet Association… we have completely supplied them with all the tools to continue with their monthly clinic.
