DID YOU KNOW ---FOR EVERY PERSON THAT IS BORN FIFTEEN DOGS AND FORTY FIVE CATS ARE ALSO BORN?
Only 1 out of 15 dogs born EVER finds a permanent home -
Only 1 out of 45 cats born EVER finds a permanent home
Over 150,000 dogs and cats are DESTROYED each year in Baja, Mexico.
One cat or dog who has puppies and kittens, and whose puppies or kittens in turn have puppies or kittens of their own, can be responsible for the birth of 50 to 200 kittens or puppies in one year.
Studies have proven that spay/neuter is the single most successful method of stabilizing and eventually reversing the pet-overpopulation problem with the least possible cost to local governments and residents, while providing the best life for the animals themselves. Spaying/neutering homeless pets:
- Stabilizes the population at manageable levels
- Eliminates annoying behaviors associated with mating
- Is humane to the animals and fosters compassion in the neighborhoods
- Is more effective and less costly than repeated attempts at extermination --- costs for repeatedly trapping and killing stray cats and dogs are far higher than promoting stable, non-breeding colonies in the same location. Vacated areas are soon filled by other pets who start the breeding process over again
How can you be a part of the solution?
In the Tijuana area...
- Spay or neuter your own pet! Sterilizing animals is an important step in maintaining their good health. In Tijuana, Rebeca Serrano, MVZ (664-215-0854) can provide on low-cost spay/neuter service.
- Make a reservation, then bring stray, un-owned pets to one of our monthly clinics! Call the number below for upcoming clinic locations---but please be patient---we often have a waiting list for our spay/neuter "Campaign" and clinics are only once a month.
- Become a volunteer and encourage your personal veterinarian to become involved! Contact Craig Neilson at c@logoinc.com.
- Tell people about the "Campaign" If someone you know is caring for stray, un-owned pet let them know about our services. Education is the key, so make others aware of the pet over population and tell them how they can help!
Outside of the greater Tijuana area...
If you are interested in starting a program in your area, contact the Give Some Life Foundation . Since we began in 1998, we have spayed/neutered nearly 9,000 animals!!!
The Give Some Life Foundation is made up entirely of volunteers, and donations are always welcome and needed for surgical supplies!
